Features common to all homes:

All residents enjoy the freedoms and civil liberties associated with living as normal citizens in the community. They are actively encouraged to pursue their own interests and hobbies, both within the home and in the wider community in which their home is situated. Since the Homes are Christian Homes, residents are encouraged to share in daily family prayers, where possible, but this is not obligatory. These prayers are held each weekday in the mornings and Holy Communion is celebrated monthly.

Residents may have their own telephones fitted in their rooms and all rooms are equipped with a TV aerial socket.

Each room is fitted with a call bell to enable residents to summon a member of staff should the need arise and all rooms are equipped to recognised standards for disabled residents.

History:

Westerley was purchased by the former Mutual Aid Homes in 1947 and converted, from two hotels, into a Residential Care Home for elderly people. The Home was opened officially in 1949 and extended in 2001.

Facilities:

BedroomStructural repairs and improvements to the property have been made over the years to ensure that the Home provides a secure and acceptable standard of accommodation with modern facilities for the care of elderly persons. New improvements have been made to the Home for additional Residents rooms with an additional 2 person passenger lift between the new rooms and the 1st floor.

The Home is registered with the National Care Standards Commission to provide accommodation for 24 residents. There are 19 rooms available for residents, five of which are suitable for shared occupation by married couples. Otherwise, residents are invariably accommodated in single rooms. Residents' bedrooms are situated on the first and second floors, which are served by a passenger lift, as well as on the ground floor. All rooms have en suite facilities, many of them including showers.

LibraryOn the ground floor there is a large dining room and two lounges, one of which has television facilities.

There is a small library. A mobile library visits the Home twice a month with a good supply of books, many of which are available in large print. Each room is fitted with a call bell to enable residents to summon a member of staff for assistance with personal needs.

A ramp has been installed to the main entrance for ease of access for wheelchair users or those who find difficulty in negotiating steps, and all rooms and facilities within the Home are accessible by ramps or lifts. Several rooms are equipped to recognised standards for disabled residents.

The Home has a small but attractive landscaped garden to the rear.
