Lectionary Thoughts for Easter 5
This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.
Year A
Easter 5A
Acts 7: 55 - 60
Visionaries have always
Been regarded as strange.
Passionate people can
Often be very difficult.
Yet to have a 'vision' may
Be a means of giving
Real purpose to otherwise
Very ordinary living.
To be passionate about
A cause makes it hard
To control the thins we
Do and the words we use.
For all that we do and
Say may provoke the
'Wrong' reaction in those
We seek to influence.
Rather than castigating
We should encourage
All those things which make
For better quality of life.
Especially we should seek
To share the 'vision' which
Is ours that these 'dreams'
May become glorious realities.
Easter 5A
Psalm 31: 1 - 5, 15 - 16
One of the big problems
Of modern life is the
Absence of any kind
Of sure foundation.
Another problem is
The lack of sure ideas
About the nature of
The god we believe in.
Easter 5A
1 Peter 2: 2 - 10
What do we use to feed our minds?
Soap opera aeries on television/
Or spiritual sustenance from
The living word of god?
What is the foundation on which we
Build all that we hold most dear?
Material wealth, bodily health or
Wholeness in the Living Word?
Who are those we highly regard?
Footballers and pop music stars?
Millionaires and record breakers or
Jesus our Saviour from Nazareth?
What is the life we strive to live?
Seeking for status in the world
Or striving to be the "Royal
Priesthood" of the Living Word?
Easter 5A
John 14: 1 - 14
We have always lived in
Troubled times; and it is
Difficult to set the
Heart at rest.
We have always asked to
"Know the way" and yet we
Often ignore your words
That give peace.
We find it hard to know
You, Lord, for all that you
Have made it plain that you
Are our friend.
We need to learn that by
God's grace we have in you
Our only hope and our real
Lasting peace.
