Lectionary Thoughts for Easter 3

This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.

Easter 3A
Psalm 116: 1 - 4, 12 - 19

To thank god for all his gifts to us is no more than our simple duty.
To be aware of all that God has done for us - in the Creation - in Christ - through the Holy spirit is an ongoing obligation.
To serve God in the manner of our living is an opportunity to give him thanks and to exercise our awareness of his benevolence.
To make public our faith in thanksgiving and service is a blessed responsibility.

Easter 3A
Acts 2: 14a, 36 - 41

Lord, you challenge us
By your crucified presence
To react to the fact
Of your death for us.

Lord, you challenge us
By your risen presence
To react to the fact
Of your life with us.

Lord, you challenge us
By your indwelling presence
To react to the fact
Of your promise in us.

Easter 3A
1 Peter 1: 17 - 23

To "live in awe of God" is the result of considering what it is that god has done for us.
To enable beings such as we God has created a whole universe. With the vast time-scale necessary for the development of its potential. This material creation has such amazing potential as to give rise to 'spiritual' creatures who are able to relate to their Creator.
This Creator is not some distantly removed, disengaged, originator, but is concerned for the quality of life that we develop.
To enable this quality of life, God has come to us in the person of Jesus - "flesh of our flesh and bone of our bone". God-in-Christ was prepared to experience our death - the death of sin - for our sakes.
Thus, we who are Christians, have the opportunity and the obligation to live a life of love through God-in-Christ's enabling power.

Easter 3A
Luke 24: 13 - 35

"As one unknown to us"
He comes in the ordinary
Things of everyday and
Transforms them.

"As one unknown to us"
He comes in the sharing
Of every meal time and
Transforms them.

"As one unknown to us"
He comes in our relationships
With everyone we meet and
Transforms them.

"As one unknown to us"
He comes in to our studies
Of his every word and
Transforms them.
