Lectionary Thoughts for Easter 2
This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.
Year A
Easter 2A
Acts 2: 14a, 22 - 32
The crowd suspected
But the apostles knew
That something special
Had happened that day.
The cynics decried it
But the Apostles knew
That they were not drunk
Rather filled by the Spirit.
The crowd did not know
But the Apostles proclaimed
That the man they had
Crucified was risen indeed.
This was the vital and
Dynamic message for
Them and the world
To hear for the first time.
This is the vital and
Dynamic message for
Us to proclaim to the
World for all time.
Easter 2A
Psalm 16
Our trust in the Lord
Is decried by the
Cynics in our modern
Materialist society.
But the false gods
To which they have
Turned give them no
Comfort or help in trouble.
In a volatile world
No stability is found
Except through the faith
That puts trust in the Lord.
Easter 2A
1 Peter 1: 3 - 9
Life without the hope
That the risen Christ
Provides is hopeless
Indeed
Life without the faith
That the risen Christ
Inspires is faithless
Indeed
Life without the joy
That the crucified Christ
Enables is joyless
Indeed.
Life without the strength
That the glorified Christ
Uplifts is weakness
Indeed.
Hope and faith
Joy and strength
Are found in Christ
Indeed.
Easter 2A
John 20: 19 - 31
The risen Christ exhibits
That new quality of life
Which is the promise for
All of us who believe.
The risen Christ gives us
That peace for living
Which is the offering for
All of us who believe.
The risen Christ enables
The forgiving of our sin
Which is the freedom for
All of us who believe.
The risen Christ displays
The evidence of his life
Which is the support for
All of us who believe.
