Lectionary Thoughts for Trinity Sunday
This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.
Year A
Trinity Sunday
Genesis 1: 1,2,4a
In ancient times your children had
A vision of your glorious power
They saw your pattern in the earth
And marvelled at your grace in them.
In ancient times your children felt
The moving of your spirit's power
They saw it's life in all the earth
And marvelled at your strength therein.
In modern times your children see
Their pictures of your universe
We know your pattern in everything
And marvel at your grace for us.
In modern times your children know
The moving of your spirit's power
We feel it's life in all we do
And rejoice in your strength for us.
Trinity Sunday
Psalm 8
When we look to the stars
We're at first overawed
But our studies of them
Show the works of the Lord.
Rejoice that God has made them all
And nothing can his Word forestall.
When we search in the earth
Then our spirits are raised
For the beauty we find
Says the Lord must be praised.
Rejoice that God has made them all
And nothing can his Word forestall.
Thus all praise to the Lord
Who made heaven and earth
To enable our lives
And tell forth his great worth.
Rejoice that God has made them all
And nothing can his Word forestall.

2 Corinthians 13: 11 - 13
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
Enables us to live in peace
The love of God gives hope to all
The Holy spirit's fellowship
Makes all the world one family.
The message of the Apostles
Brings news of salvation in Christ;
This news has been brought down to us
In the fellowship of Christ's church
Making the world one family.
Rejoice in Christ's kingdom of grace
Rejoice in the truth of his Word
Rejoice in the love that god gives
Rejoice in the Spirit's great strength
Rejoice in our one family.

Matthew 28: 16 - 20
The authority we have in our faith
Comes from Jesus the Son of our God
The task he commands us to obey
Is to make all the world his disciples.
The authority we have in our faith
Comes from the Spirit of God
The tasks that he enables in us
Are to use all our gifts in his service.
The authority we have in our lives
Comes from our openness to Jesus
The tasks each of us have to do
Are to live to his glory and honour.
This authority can only be seen
When our preaching and living are one.
These tasks are then enabled in us
Through Christ; once again the world is made whole.
