Lectionary Thoughts for Proper 8
This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.
Year A
Proper 8A
(Sunday between 26 June and 2 July, thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time)
Psalm 89: 1 - 4, 15 - 18
Sing praise to our God
Whose love is for ever
On earth there is nought
That Love cannot sever.
Sing Praise to our god
Who made our lives for him
His spirit in Jesus
Filling us to the brim.
Sing praise to our god
Who fills us with his light
Jesus' salvation
Helps us live in his might.
Sing praise to our god
Who shows us his glory
Let us in that faith
Live the Gospel story.
Proper 8A
Jeremiah 28: 5 - 9
Hope is our Christian heritage
For this and every future age.
Our hope in Christ gives point to life
And helps us in our worldly strife.
Hope is the Christians lively breath
This hope transforms all fear of death
Our hope is real and very true
For it is built on Christ Jesu.
Proper 8A
Romans 6: 12 - 23
God has freed us from sin's power
Let us live then in this hour
At the disposal of our God
Lives obedient to his Word.
God has set us free from sin
To love, obey and serve him
Leaving all that is ill behind
Led on by the Spirit's wind.
Our lives divided no more
By temptation's subtle pow'r
Through god's gift of eternal life
We are victors in this strife.
Praise to our creator god
Who redeems us through his Word
Praise Holy spirit and the Son
God eternal Three in One.
Proper 8A
Matthew 10: 40 - 42
No service for God goes unrecognised
This promise from Jesus he gives to each one
Of his servants that they may realise
Though common and humble they are for God's Son.
Each gift in it's turn receives its reward.
God commands all our skills for his kingdom's work.
Our strength to do this we get from his word
We dare not be idle nor this duty shirk.
