Lectionary Thoughts for Proper 23

This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.

Proper 23A
Isaiah 25: 1 - 9
Suggested tune "Muffield"

Lord you are our God
We praise your holy name;
For us you have done wonderful things
Long planned by your grace.
We are awed and give praise
For your love to us, each of us sings.

Our refuge and strength
Is established in God.
He is our refuge in time if need;
A shelter from life's strains
Gives healing to our pains.
Such Love calls for all our praise indeed.

The lord has prepared
A rich banquet of Love
For each of his people to share.
Thus we sing of his grace
In our verses of praise
And rejoice in his Love and his care.

Proper 23A
Psalm 23

A shepherd to my wandering soul,
My Saviour and my God is still.
His spirit makes my life quite whole
And stays with me through good and ill.

He helps me through life's darkest days
He takes away my doubt and fear.
His Love draws out my highest praise;
I know his presence ever near.

God's gifts to me are rich indeed
A debt which I cannot repay.
His service will my footsteps speed,
Dwell in his presence every day.

Proper 23A
Philippians 4: 1 - 9
Suggested tune "Tetherdown"

The peace of the Lord
Is mighty indeed;
Beyond all our thought;
By his Love decreed.
It's power guards our hearts
And keeps them from ill.
All our life in it's parts
He upholds it still.

All things that are true
And all that is pure
For me and for your
They are good and sure.
The practice of Jesus
Our Master we share
To live by his goodness
His Love and his care.

Proper 23A
Matthew 22: 1 - 14

The wedding feast that is the world
God has prepared of his great Love.
This feast he offers to us all
And waits for us to make our move.

But we have spurned his graciousness
To follow, each, our selfish ways.
The strife and trouble this has caused
Is burdening our weary days.

Our God has not deserted us
He takes our burden in his Son;
Who, by his death, upon the cross
Has gained new life for every one.

All praise to god the Father give,
Add praise to Jesus Christ his Son.
Praise too the Spirit all alive
Our blessed, glorious, Three in One.
