Lectionary Thoughts for Proper 10

This, very mixed, collection of ideas are the result of looking at the Lectionary readings and noting the thoughts that 'popped' into my mind. I have, very deliberately, not tried to 'polish' them in any way, mainly because I lack the finesse necessary.

Proper 10A
Isaiah 55: 10 - 13

Our god has spoken through his Word
The whole Creation sprang to life
This shows he is a living Lord
Who spreads his Word of Life abroad.

God visited us in his word
Through his death he brought us new life
This shows he is a living Lord
Who spreads his Word of Life abroad.

Our god inspires us through his Word
The Holy Spirit fills our life
This shows he is a living Lord
Who spreads his Word of Life abroad.

Proper 10A
Psalm 65: (1 - 8), 9 - 13

Lord, you have given to your Creation
The freedom to grow and express your will
This gives the earth a wonder of beauty
Such love fills our hearts and inspires us still.

Lord, you have given to your creation
Beauty of design expressing your pow'r
Order and reason we find day by day
Such grace fills out hearts and shows us your Way

Lord, we are part of your good Creation
Your carers here to express all your will
Working with all and using your power
Your challenge, by grace, to fill every hour.

Proper 10 A
Romans 8: 1 - 11

Perfect freedom! Can it be
For a sinner such as me?
Purchased for us through Christ's death
Love is now our natural breath.

What the law could not achieve
Faith in Christ gives us relief
From the power of death and hell
God's love in us will ever dwell.

Through the raising power of God
We're enlivened by his Word
Thus to live and thus to move
By his Spirit our lives improve.

Proper 10A
Matthew 13: 1 - 9, 18 - 23

Ours is a 'sound bite' world
We cannot build on these,
But in God's Word alone
Our spirits find their ease.
From worldly cares and sorrows strife
We seek to build a better life.

Ours is a 'techno' world
We try to build on this
For this, too, is God's Word
His pow'r to us he gives;
But of his Word we take no heed
And spoil this world through sin and greed.

This is a lovely world
God's gift to us and ours;
But tis God's Word alone
That will release our powers
From worldly cares and sin's long strife
To build, with him, a better life.
