Peter was a wonderful person to many people. First, he was a fantastic family man. He thought the world of Carolyn and they took great delight in sharing in the development of John and Tim as they grew up. Their children are the wonderful people they are today because of the time that their parents spent with them.
Peter was a hard-working and considerate colleague at work. He spent many years as Head Teacher in the Falkland Islands where his Christian presence had a great impact. Upon returning to England, the family settled in the Kendal area and Peter and Carolyn both quickly became respected and recognised for their abilities, hard work and outpouring of their faith from the pulpit. Peter and Carolyn shared many interests. Their preaching led them to be concerned about others and they worked tirelessly for LPMA. Peter used his interest in walking to promote LPMA, travelling from John O' Groates to Lands End and back again taking in each Methodist District and supported by Carolyn all the way. When Peter was President of LPMA, he and Carolyn gave encouragement and brought enthusiasm wherever they visited. Even after his year, he continued to help Local Preachers in other Circuits by writing to them to offer encouragement and support. Peter was an enthusiastic leader in the local Boys Brigade, taking groups on carefully planned trips and shaping the character and faith of many impressionable teenagers. He had a lively and enquiring mind, interested in the detail of people's lives. He enrolled on an Open University Course at Lancaster and became a highly respected academic there. His dedication in translating and interpreting ancient scripts brought new insights into ways of mediaeval living that will be invaluable for future students and academics. Carolyn served in many areas of Milnthorpe Methodist church, working with quiet calm in support of her particular causes. Her loss is especially keenly felt there. We thank God that Peter and Carolyn were our friends, that they allowed us to share their lives in so many ways. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we know that God has welcomed them home as a true and faithful servants. John Witt and Ros Peedle
